The Westhampton Beach High School Virtual Enterprise team, Soteria, took home top awards at the VE National Business Plan Competition, held April 11-12.

Team Soteria took first place in New York state before advancing and earning fifth place in the country. They competed against 200 teams at the state level and vied against 700 teams for their fifth-place finish at nationals.

Soteria is set up as a cybersecurity training business. The team’s members created

their business concept and formulated plans to market it.

The Westhampton Beach School District extends its congratulations to Soteria on their exceptional performance.

Westhampton Beach High School students who volunteer their time with the Westhampton War Memorial Junior Ambulance program were celebrated for their hard work and dedication on April 15. During the event, Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Moore praised the students and presented the organization with a proclamation. She also listened to the students speak about their experiences while volunteering. In addition, accolades were given to the students by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carolyn Probst and Principal Dr. Christopher Herr, as well as by members of the ambulance program.

Jennifer Wagner, a Westhampton Beach Elementary School fourth grade ENL integrated classroom teacher, will be studying in Prague this summer after winning a grant from the Fund for Teachers organization. Wagner is one of only 365 teachers from around the world to be awarded the grant out of a pool of 10,000 applicants.

“I am excited to study in Prague and to use my experience and knowledge in my future classrooms,” said Wagner, who has been a teacher in Westhampton Beach for the past eight years. Wagner also intends to share what she learns with her colleagues.

In Prague, Wagner will participate in a creativity workshop where she will explore strategies for utilizing activities such as free-form drawing, photography, storytelling and mindfulness to bridge the academic performance and background knowledge gaps between English language learners from Central America and native English speakers.

Wagner was awarded the $5,000 for her “unwavering commitment to crafting a transformative learning experience, one that fuels your curiosity and positively impacts your students,” according to the Fund for Teachers organization.

Westhampton Beach Middle School National Junior Honor Society students are working to raise money for Paws of War, which provides service dogs to veterans free of charge. For the fundraiser, the students are selling limited edition Westhampton Beach Middle School shirts for $10 each. Prior to starting the fundraiser, the students met with representatives of Paws of War and learned more about the organization.

The Westhampton Beach School District congratulates Maya Farnan and Reese King, who were named to Newsday’s Top 100 Long Island Girls Lacrosse Players list. Farnan was recognized for making 145 saves last season and King earned accolades for making 38 goals, 10 assists and 64 draw controls last season.
